In June 2008, ArcellorMittal launched their first Food Gardening initiative called "Siyaphila Food Gardens Project" at Sapphire Secondary School in Muvhango, Bophelong. "Siyaphila" is a social invest ment project that provides members of the local community with seeds, gardeing tools and equipment to grow vegetables.

The project was spearheaded by Food Gardens Foundation (FGF), where 10 members of the local community were trained and had to adopt and share their skills with other 24 community members.

All the project members i.e. main 10 and the adopted had a goal which was achieved of helping each member establish three (3) trench beds per house-hold using the FGF method. This was enthusiastically received and undertaken by these participants, where in the end 102 trench beds per house-hold were prepared two-months later.
